Quest Notes

A long classic puzzle quest that begins beneath Plains of Havoc, crosses the Dream Realm and ends with a permanent choice between the Nightmare Knights and the Brotherhood of Bones. Careful item placement, puzzle solving and exact faction dialogue are required.

Objective: Pass every Dream Challenge puzzle, claim the four final treasures and Certificate, then use the Certificate to join exactly one order and gain access to its Knightwatch Tower.

Outfit Method

  1. Complete the required access first: Nightmare Outfits Quest, Brotherhood Outfits Quest.
  2. Collect every item listed in Required materials before starting the turn-in.
  3. Go to A Ghostly Guardian in/near Dream Realm and Knightwatch Tower.
  4. Say: hi, first dreamer's challenge quest addon, yes. The NPC removes the first-addon materials and unlocks the first addon.
  5. Say: hi, second dreamer's challenge quest addon, yes. The NPC removes the second-addon materials and unlocks the second addon.
  6. Open Set Outfit on your character and enable the unlocked addon(s).

Walkthrough

  1. Prepare every required tool and sacrifice item, then travel from Venore toward Plains of Havoc and locate the concealed underground entrance.
  2. Use the Shovel and Pick at their marked terrain points, complete the Carrot, Fire Bug and Death Ring mechanisms, and enter the Dream Realm.
  3. Arrange the 36 pillows into four exact 3x3 colour squares: blue north-west, green north-east, red south-west and yellow south-east.
  4. Solve the moving-wall room, the Tic-Tac-Toe board and the four elements sacrifice room without leaving foreign items on the puzzle tiles.
  5. Follow the Dream Paths carefully until reaching A Ghostly Guardian and the final treasure area.
  6. Open all four independent reward chests, especially the Certificate. The Certificate proves that the Dream Challenge was completed.
  7. Choose permanently between The Dream Master and The Bone Master, confirm the choice, then use an Orichalcum Pearl to access the matching Knightwatch Tower.

Complete Dream Challenge Puzzle Guide

Part 1 — Preparation and Plains of Havoc Entrance

Do not enter until every tool and sacrifice item is ready.

Complete step-by-step
  1. Travel from Venore to the Plains of Havoc region and reach the hidden Dream Challenge entrance area.
  2. Use the Shovel on the concealed loose ground to reveal the descent. Go down and keep the Shovel; do not discard tools during the route.
  3. Proceed until reaching the cracked stone section and use the Pick on the marked crack to open the next passage.
  4. Clear nearby monsters before manipulating objects. Several rooms are narrow and a respawn can interrupt item placement.
  5. Keep at least four empty inventory positions for the final Bag, Bread, Wine and Certificate rewards.
Important route notes
  • No NPC formally starts the challenge.
  • The complete route is one-way in several places, so missing items can require restarting from the entrance.

Part 2 — Carrot, Fire Bug and Death Ring Tests

Three item mechanisms open the route into the deeper challenge.

Complete step-by-step
  1. At the carrot test, step onto the special tile while carrying one Carrot. The Carrot is consumed and the successful tile teleports you forward.
  2. Without a Carrot, the tile rejects you and deals fire damage. Do not repeatedly step on it while unprepared.
  3. Reach the dry-grass/fire mechanism and use the Fire Bug exactly on the designated object. This activates the nearby portal.
  4. Enter the portal after the Fire Bug mechanism is active.
  5. At the line of blocking trees, place one Death Ring on the marked offering tile. The ring is consumed and all three trees disappear.
  6. Pass the tree barrier promptly and continue through the next teleport. Keep the second Death Ring for the four elements room.
Important route notes
  • Use the item on the exact quest tile, not on nearby decorative ground.
  • Never spend the second Death Ring before reaching the element puzzle.

Part 3 — The 36-Pillow Colour Puzzle

Create four solid 3x3 colour blocks in the 6x6 board.

  1. Move the pillows one tile at a time using the pressure tiles around the board. Each pressure tile shifts a complete row or column.
  2. Build the north-west 3x3 quadrant entirely with Blue Pillows.
  3. Build the north-east 3x3 quadrant entirely with Green Pillows.
  4. Build the south-west 3x3 quadrant entirely with Red Pillows.
  5. Build the south-east 3x3 quadrant entirely with Yellow Pillows.
  6. After all 36 positions are correct, step onto the exit teleport. A correct board sends you forward; an incorrect board rejects you.
  7. The pillows are randomized again after a successful passage, so every later player must solve their own board.
Important route notes
  • The colours must fill exact 3x3 blocks; a correct count with mixed positions is not enough.
  • Remove parcels or unrelated items from the board before testing the exit.

Part 4 — Moving Walls Puzzle

Manipulate the levers until the complete wall ring is open.

Complete step-by-step
  1. Enter the wall chamber and inspect the rectangular ring of sixteen wall positions around the centre.
  2. Operate the room levers one at a time. Each lever changes a specific part of the wall layout.
  3. Continue until none of the sixteen required passage positions contains a blocking wall.
  4. Do not stand on a wall position while another player operates a lever.
  5. When the full route is open, step on the exit teleport. If any blocking wall remains, the teleport sends you to the failure area instead of forward.
Important route notes
  • Foreign solid objects can make the room look unsolved; keep puzzle tiles clear.
  • Coordinate lever use when multiple players are present.

Part 5 — Tic-Tac-Toe Puzzle

Place every light and dark token on its exact final square before opening the portal.

Complete step-by-step
  1. Collect the supplied light and dark Tic-Tac-Toe tokens and move them onto the marked board.
  2. Reproduce the required solved pattern shown by the room clues. Use the lever only after every token is on a board square.
  3. Make sure there are no extra tokens, parcels or unrelated items contaminating the board.
  4. Pull the validation lever. A correct pattern opens the portal; an incorrect pattern leaves the route closed.
  5. Enter the opened portal. The room resets its tokens, levers and portal after passage for the next attempt.
Important route notes
  • Do not carry puzzle tokens away from the room.
  • If the board has been disturbed by another player, reset it before rebuilding the pattern.

Part 6 — Four Elements Sacrifice Room

Place all four offerings correctly before operating the lever.

  1. Identify the four elemental offering points surrounding the central stone.
  2. Place a Vial that actually contains Water on the water offering tile.
  3. Place one Life Ring on the life offering tile.
  4. Place the remaining Death Ring on the death offering tile.
  5. Use a Fire Field Rune to create a real Fire Field on the fire offering tile.
  6. Check all four offerings before touching the lever. An empty vial, wrong fluid or wrong field does not count.
  7. Pull the lever only when all four are present. The offerings are consumed together, the central stone disappears and the teleport opens.
  8. Enter the teleport before the mechanism resets.
Important route notes
  • Never test the lever with an incomplete combination.
  • The water container is validated by fluid type, not only by the vial item.

Part 7 — Dream Paths, Ghostly Guardian and Final Rewards

Follow the surreal route carefully and claim all four independent treasures.

  1. Follow the Dream Paths through their teleport sequence. Move deliberately and avoid stepping into decorative or return teleports by accident.
  2. Survive the monster rooms and continue until reaching A Ghostly Guardian.
  3. For guidance, say hi, dream challenge, rewards and certificate.
  4. Proceed to the final treasure chamber and open every independent reward chest.
  5. Collect the Bag, Bread, Wine and Certificate. The Certificate is the critical proof needed for the faction choice.
  6. Confirm that the Certificate is in your inventory before leaving the reward area.

Part 8 — Permanent Faction Choice and Knightwatch Tower

Choose only after reading both options. The character cannot join both orders.

  2. Nightmare route: speak with The Dream Master and say hi, nightmare knights, join, yes, yes. The final confirmation permanently joins the Nightmare Knights.
  3. Brotherhood route: speak with The Bone Master and say hi, brotherhood of bones, join, yes, yes. The final confirmation permanently joins the Brotherhood of Bones.
  4. The NPC verifies that the Dream Challenge was completed and that you possess the Certificate before accepting the permanent choice.
  5. After joining, approach only the portal belonging to your own order. The opposite faction portal rejects you.
  6. Carry one Orichalcum Pearl and step into the valid order portal to access its Knightwatch Tower. The Pearl is consumed only after successful travel.
  7. Your chosen order unlocks the matching classic outfit progression; those later rank and addon tasks are separate from the core Dream Challenge.
